About Boxhill School

Boxhill School

Box Hill is a friendly co-educational school for boarding and day students aged 11-18.

What makes us stand out is that we identify and nurture the talents and abilities of every student, so that they all achieve their potential ¡V and this can be in so many ways: in the classroom, on the sports field or through interactions with other students.

We cater for the individual, providing small classes and tutorial assistance, making our school an ideal environment for every student to grow and flourish. Students benefit from the family atmosphere and a feeling of peer support.

At Key Stage Three (Years 7-9), a broad-based curriculum is taught, offering a wide range of opportunities and academic experiences. This supports the transition to the two year GCSE and IGCSE programmes in Years 10 and 11. Beyond the core curriculum of English, Maths and Science, our students are strongly encouraged to study at least one humanity, one foreign language and a creative subject at this level. In the Sixth Form, students undertake the exciting International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, which provides both preparation for university and life beyond.

For international students who require support in the English language, the schools International Study Centre provides tuition in English as a second language and a programme of IGCSEs.

Box Hill School provides strong pastoral support for each student, with every child being assigned to a House, complete with Houseparent, common room and kitchen. Each student is also assigned to a personal tutor within their house ¡V a member of teaching staff who supports their academic and pastoral development.

The quality of relationships between staff and students and among students is excellent. Well-developed relationships prevail throughout the school and mutual respect, between teachers and students and among the students themselves, is clearly evident. Pupils respond extremely well to the school¡¦s encouragement to care for and show respect to others¡¦ [Independent Schools Inspectorate]

We believe that activities outside the classroom form an important part of education, and all students take part in weekly and termly activities. As well as this regular programme, all of our students are involved in a minimum of two expeditions a year. Students may also have the opportunity to participate in Round Square expeditions, carrying out community based activities in locations such as Peru, South Africa and India. Additionally, the school organises Round Square exchanges where Years 7 and 8 students travel to European destinations such as France and Germany, and Year 9 and above students spend up to eight weeks in South Africa, Australia, America, Canada, India or Peru, studying and working at one of our sister schools.

Whatever is right for each student, these experiences, together with great pastoral care and personal attention, ensure that each student will excel.
